Round The Island Yacht Race
Excitement, It’s that time of year again….yes a swarm of colourful sails sailing the coastline of the Isle of Wight can only mean one thing, it’s Round the Island Yacht Race weekend.
If you have never experienced Round The Island Race – you must!! The Wight Holiday Company have a lovely 2 bedroom self catering holiday cottage called 2 Diamond Cottage available for this weekend if you would like a last minute break to the Isle of Wight. Click here for details of 2 Diamond Cottage in Freshwater.
Now back to the sailing….
An early start of 5:30am will see the start of the boats set off from west from Cowes and towards The Needles, all boats should be started by around 7:10am.
There are many great vantage points to watch the boats sail past, Yarmouth is a really good spot to be viewing if you fancy getting up and out early to catch the boats. A bit further on for viewing is The Needles, a really is a breath taking spot to be, as is Freshwater Bay and Ventnor Bay.
One special place we at The Wight Holiday Company love to watch the boats from though is Culver Cliff, the view point is fantastic and you can see the boats for miles. If you head up to Culver Cliff to view the boats why not pop in to the Culver Haven Inn up at the top, they do great food, have nice real ales on tap and seating both inside and outside.
If you want to see the boats but would like to view them a little later, why not head to Seaview, take advantage of the outdoor seating at The Seaview Hotel, The Old Fort pub or perhaps The Boathouse Inn down towards Puckpool end of Seaview – The Boathouse has lots of outside comfy seating, has a great menu and has parking available.
Cowes will be the place to be on Saturday evening, lots of tired sailors, plenty of laughing and story telling from the days’ events will be heard and of course plenty of relaxing will be happening with a glass of something cold in hand. We think with Cloudy Bay being presenting sponsor of this event it certainly will be a great evening!
